UNESCO WHV 2022 – Let’s Heritage
The World Heritage Volunteers Initiative is led by the UNESCO World Heritage Centre in collaboration with the Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service- CCIVS (WHV global coordinator regional coordinator for Africa Arab States Europe and North America and Latin America and the Caribbean) and Better World (regional coordinator for Asia and the Pacific). 58 action camp projects will be implemented from June to December 2022 at 55 World Heritage properties and sites on the Tentative Lists by 44 organizations in 29 countries around the globe.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus formerly known as Victoria Terminus Station in Mumbai is an outstanding example of Victorian Gothic Revival architecture in India blended with themes deriving from Indian traditional architecture. The building became the symbol of Bombay as the ‘Gothic City’ and the major international mercantile port of India. It is an outstanding example of the meeting of two cultures as British architects worked with Indian craftsmen to include Indian architectural tradition and idioms thus forging a new style unique to Bombay.

The project is part of a nationwide four-sites campaign extending the outreach of the first ‘Let’s Heritage’ program implemented in 2017 by the Elixir Foundation at Raniki-Vav. Running for the fourth year at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus it aims at promoting heritage preservation among youth and local communities documenting and spreading examples of active participation stimulating a sense of responsibility and connecting international and local people with the site management and conservation authorities.

The volunteers will organize and take part in different awareness raising actions from a heritage walk to classes quizzes treasure hunts and art performances with local youth school students and community representatives. They will also organize cleanup painting and photo contexts and promote the site and youth involvement in heritage protection across different social media.

Eligibilities

Participant must be 16-35 years old.

Participant has to be involved in the entire time frame of the program.

Participant must be enthusiastic to explore heritage conservation and promotion at the
World Heritage Site.

Participation Fees: (The Participation fees include – Accommodation Meals and Local Travel during the entire program)

USD 300 for Foreign Nationals
